This happy snap of a group of unidentified patrons pictured on the edge of the pool in the beer garden at the Bellevue Hotel is one of a series of mystery photo’s from the Great Lakes Museum‘s archives. Three couples (also pictured in an earlier post) appear regularly throughout the series dated 1952.If you recognise any of the faces we’d love to hear from you.
Thanks to Stumpy Elliott for helping our history come alive by bringing a list of names into the Great Lakes Museum for the mystery photo recently published in the Great Lakes Advocate.

Only two names were originally documented with this image and Stumpy’s contribution of names for the rest of the faces will now be documented along with the photograph and uploaded to the clickHistory Great Lakes database due to be launched this coming November.
The permanent online database of local history images will make over 1000 historic photographs from the Great Lakes Museums collection accessible to the community in the joint project funded by the State Library of NSW and supported by the Powerhouse Museum’s Regional Services Program.

This week’s mystery photo from a series of holiday snaps has ‘Main Street – Tuncurry 1952’ handwritten on reverse. The north view of Manning St. Tuncurry shows the two story Bellevue Hotel in the background which was located on the same site of where the current Bellevue Hotel stands today. The delivery van for Tuncurry Bakery can be seen at right. No names are documented with the photo. If you recognise any of the faces, we’d love to hear from you.
This hand coloured portrait of Charlotte (nee Avery) and Andrew Delore circa 1890 has recently been uploaded to the clickHistory Great Lakes database. The local history database features the Great Lakes Museums’ collection of family portraits to aid researchers tracing their family histories.
Leon and Sharon Delore and family members have been busy researching information on their Tuncurry ancestor’s. Leon is great grandson of Andrew and Charlotte Delore, during a visit to the museum they caught up with their relative, long time museum volunteer Carmen Nixon (nee Bonventi) who is grand-daughter to Andrew and Charlotte Delore. Carmen’s mother Stella Sophia Delore, known as Cissy, was the youngest of Andrew and Charlotte’s ten children.

Project volunteers are currently documenting and digitising images from the Great Lakes Museum’s collection of family and wedding portraits in preparation for uploading to the ‘clickHistory Great Lakes’ database. Amongst the Museum’s extensive collection of over 8000 images are a number of partially documented photographs including this mystery wedding party group portrait. The photograph is believed to be taken by local freelance photographer Archie Blanch and has ‘Nabiac wedding’ the handwritten on reverse.
