Names and dates relating to this partially documented photograph are just some of the valuable details visitors to the Nabiac Show last Saturday were able to provide to volunteers manning the Great Lakes Museums display of early show photo’s. This image, from an extensive collection taken by local freelance photographer Archie Blanch, shows five dignitaries seated at the at the opening the Annual Wallamba and District Agricultural Show held at Nabiac Showground in 1962. Thanks to the valuable contributions of information supplied by the local community the record can now be updated with following names: L-R David (Dave) Hancock, Wylie Breckenridge, Arthur Beisler, John Smith, Mark Holstein.

This image along with approx 300 other Show photo’s from the Great Lakes Museums archive will be displayed on screen at the Wallamba & District Show this coming Saturday. We’ll be set up for show goers to put missing names to some of the faces in the less documented photos of the collection such as the following pic taken by Archie Blanch of these pretty cool looking champion riders at the 1967? show.

Some Good-old Show Goers

Only three more days until the Wallamba & District Show and a huge big THANK YOU to the show committee for helping us out with identifying people and events featuring in the Great Lakes Museums collection of Show photo’s. The committee’s Vice President, Cherie Paterson, dropped a folder full of images into Les (Screw) Godbolt today who was able to name many of the faces. Here he is, pictured third from left, enjoying a cold one along with Darryl Paterson and, who he thinks is Betty Bridge (centre) and Bev West (right) at the 1976 Nabiac Show. Good on you Screw and thanks for helping make local history!

A week to go before the Show

It’s just under a week to go before the Annual Wallamba & District Agricultural Show opens. A team of museum staff together with members from the Show committee have been busy researching, digitising & documenting the Great Lakes Museum’s collection of Show photo’s in preparation to upload to the ‘clickHistory Great Lakes’ database.

Noted on the reverse of this image taken at the 1961 Nabiac Show – “Showing their expertise with a broad axe are George Muxlow (singlet) and mate”

Does anyone recognise George’s ‘mate’?

SHOWTIME!

It’s that time of year again for the Annual Wallamba & District Show to be held at Nabiac and we’ve been digitising a collection of Show photo’s dating from 1927 to upload to the clickHistory Great Lakes database. Members from the Show committee have been busy circulating images around the community to help identify names, dates and events of partially documented images and we’ll be posting a selection of these here together with some favourites in the lead up to the opening of show.
This photograph taken by local press photographer Archie Blanch captures one of the bullocks almost making an escape from the crush before the rider had time to be seated during the Bucking Bullock event in 1932.
